Coach Healy on Lawson
"Sydney Lawson brings speed, competitiveness and grit to the Badgers. She is one of the fastest, toughest outfielders from the state of Iowa. Sydney is a run-scorer. She caught our eye, competing for Merle Miller's Southeast Iowa All-Stars. She finds a way to get on base, cause havoc on the base paths and put runs on the board for her team. It's always exciting when you can find great speed kids that are physical around the bases. Sydney will be force in our offense."
Why Wisconsin?
"Madison has everything- the academics, the athletics, the beautiful campus, the school spirit, and so much more. I felt right at home when I first visited UW almost two years ago. I’ve heard stories of recruits getting a feeling like they just belonged there on campus, and that was definitely something I experienced here in Madison. I knew by the end of my unofficial that I didn’t want to go anywhere else. Plus, I fit right into Wisconsin’s offense as a slapper."
Off the Field with Sydney
My favorite thing about Wisconsin Softball is: The offense. Being a slapper herself, Coach Healy is very slapper oriented, so I fit right into the mix. She’s also very aggressive on the base paths and always trying to steal bases which I love.
A non-athletic talent I have is: whistling. I taught myself how when I was in kindergarten, and I would say I’m pretty good at it.
Favorite quote: “Strive for excellence, not perfection.”
Most memorable softball achievement or favorite softball moment: Hitting a homerun on my first at bat of my senior night or winning a state title my junior year.
If I could change one softball rule, it would be… getting called out if a bunt goes foul with 2 strikes
Best UW memory: Signing my NLI and becoming an official Badger.
If you could be a member of any TV-sitcom family, which would it be? Not exactly a sitcom, but I’m going to go with New Girl. The show is hilarious.
What is your favorite movie line or scene? Pretty much any scene from Never Back Down (also has a bumpin’ sound track, check it out)
What is your favorite book? Either “Call of the Wild” or “White Fang” by Jack London. I love dog books :)
Favorite athlete? Chloe Miller of course
