Badgers invite alumni back to reveal 2026 NCAA National Championship banner
MADISON, Wis. – The No.1 Wisconsin women’s hockey team will play Boston University in its home opener at LaBahn Arena on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. CT and Friday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m. CT.
The raising of the 2026 NCAA Championship banner will take place prior to the game on Thursday. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to ensure they can find their seat before the ceremony.

1. SWEEPING THE SAINTS
Wisconsin swept the St. Lawrence Saints during the season opener at Appleton Arena. During Friday’s game of the series, the Badgers garnered a 6-2 win over the Saints.
Sophomore Finley McCarthy scored the first goal of the season off a pass from freshman Rosalie Tremblay. Tremblay kept things going, tallying her first NCAA goal. Charlotte Pieckenhagen had three points from one goal and two assists.
During Saturday’s game, sophomore netminder Rhyah Stewart had her first career shutout, 6-0. Freshmen Haley Box and Maddy Kimbrel teamed up to collect their first NCAA points with Box on the goal and Kimbrel on the assist. Kelly Gorbatenko and Maggie Scannell each collected two goals as well.
2. AGAINST THE TERRIERS
UW’s upcoming series against the Terriers is the seventh meetup all-time for the two teams, with the Badgers leading 6-0-0.
The Badgers last met up with Boston University during a neutral site game in Washington D.C. in November of 2017. In this singular game against the Terriers, UW won 4-2.
Boston University’s 2025-26 season ended early last February when they fell to Northeastern in the Hockey East quarterfinals. Northeastern went on to the NCAA Frozen Four where they lost to Ohio State.
3. RAISING THE BANNER
During Thursday’s game of the series, the 2026 National Championship banner will be revealed. Before the 7 p.m. game, the banner will be raised to celebrate last year's great win and all the history that belongs to the Wisconsin women’s hockey program.
Fans should plan to be in their seats by 6:40 p.m. to ensure a full viewing of the ceremony.
The first 1,000 fans will receive a mini National Championship banner.
4. BADGERS ABROAD
Eight Badgers were named to the Canada National Women’s Training Team roster, Hockey Canada announced on Monday. The camp takes place from October 8-14.
Current players, Ava Murphy, Rosalie Tremblay and Emma Venusio will represent Wisconsin in Quebec next month.
Five former Badgers also made the list, including Emily Clark, Sarah Nurse, Ann-Renée Desbiens, Daryl Watts and Sarah Wozniewicz.
Badger alum Blayre Turnbull was invited but cannot attend.
5. HAPPY TO BE HOME
The Badgers have been stellar in Madison over the last 10 years, compiling a 145-11-9 record at LaBahn Arena. The Badgers have a .500 or better record against EVERY team they have played at LaBahn Arena.
Overall, UW is 209-23-12 at LaBahn Arena, which opened up during the fall of 2012. Last season UW went 16-2-0 at home at LaBahn Arena and outscored opponents 94-28.
