Badgers play their fifth-straight ranked match
MADISON, Wis. - The No. 19 Wisconsin men's soccer team (5-2-2, 0-2-2 B1G) plays its fifth-straight ranked opponent on Friday night against No. 15 Washington (6-3-1, 3-1-0 B1G). Kickoff at Husky Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 9 p.m. CT.
Here are five things to know before this week's match.
1 – WEEK RECAP – Wisconsin played two matches last week, battling to a draw at McClimon Soccer Complex against No. 2 Indiana and dropping a match to No. 11 Michigan State on the road. Tuesday's match against the Hoosiers was intense from the start, with both sides showing why they are two of the top defenses in the Big Ten. A goal by each team in the second half led the match to a one-all draw. On Friday, the Badgers were unable to overcome a first-half red card, falling to the Spartans, 3-0. It was the first time UW's defense allowed more than one goal in a contest.
2 – BROWN-SAMPER BANGER – Defensemen Isaac Brown-Samper netted his first collegiate goal against No. 2 Indiana. The sophomore settled a loose ball off a corner kick and sent it past Indiana's keeper to even the match. Brown-Samper earned his first collegiate point last season, with an assist against Milwaukee on Oct. 7.
3 – SCOUTING WASHINGTON – The Huskies are coming into the match on a two-game win streak, beating No. 3 Ohio State and No. 22 Rutgers with a combined goal differential of 8-1. Their only conference loss was a 1-0 setback to No. 2 Indiana in Bloomington. Third-year Zach Ramsey leads all of NCAA Division 1 soccer with 31 points and 14 goals. Stockton Short has started every game in goal for Washington and holds a 0.600 save percentage.
4 – HISTORY WITH THE HUSKIES – The Badgers are searching for their first program win against Washington. The Huskies currently hold a 6-0-1 record against Wisconsin. Last season, the Badgers fell to the eventual National Champions, 2-0, in Madison.
