Wisconsin looks to continue its road success
MADISON, Wis. — No. 14 Wisconsin women's soccer (7-1-2, 3-0-1 Big Ten) continues its three-game road swing on Sunday, Sept. 27, traveling to Piscataway, New Jersey, to face Rutgers (2-4-3, 1-3-0). Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. CT at Yurcak Field.
Here are five things to know before the Badgers face the Scarlet Knights:
1. History with Rutgers
Wisconsin holds a 5-4-2 advantage over Rutgers in the series dating back to 2014. The Badgers are 1-3 in Piscataway, with their lone road victory coming in 2019, a 2-1 overtime win.
The teams last met on Sept. 12, 2024, when Rutgers earned a 1-0 victory at McClimon.
2. Know the Scarlet Knights
Rutgers enters Sunday at 2-4-3 after falling 1-0 to No. 12 UCLA on Thursday night. The Scarlet Knights opened Big Ten play with a 1-0 win at Oregon before dropping conference matches to Washington, Purdue and UCLA.
Freshman Lilia Calvert and Ashley Baran have led the Rutgers attack with two goals apiece. In net, Olivia Bodmer has been a key piece of the Scarlet Knights' defense, recording a career-high 10 saves in Rutgers' conference-opening shutout of Oregon.
3. Badgers strong in Big Ten play
Wisconsin has opened Big Ten play unbeaten, posting a 3-0-1 conference record through four matches. The Badgers earned a scoreless draw at Illinois before picking up three straight wins over Northwestern, Indiana and Maryland.
Wisconsin has been especially strong defensively in conference play, not allowing a goal through its first four Big Ten matches. The Badgers have outscored conference opponents 5-0 during that stretch and enter Rutgers looking for their fourth-straight Big Ten victory.
4. Last Time Out
Wisconsin extended its unbeaten streak to nine matches with a 1-0 victory over Maryland on Thursday night in College Park. Taylor Gordon scored the game's lone goal in the 25th minute, marking her second goal of the season.
Drew Stover made two saves as Wisconsin recorded its fourth consecutive shutout. The Badgers outshot Maryland 11-7 and held a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal.
