The Badgers continue to show academic prowess in NCAA's latest APR release
MADISON, Wis. – Six University of Wisconsin athletic programs achieved perfect multi-year scores in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released by the NCAA earlier this month as part of the annual NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program.   Â
Wisconsin's men's cross country, men's golf, men's track & field, wrestling, women's cross country and women's golf programs all recorded multi-year APR scores of 1,000. Sixteen Badger programs recorded perfect 2024-25 scores of 1,000. Â
"Badger student‑athletes continue to raise the bar academically, demonstrating a commitment to excellence," said University of Wisconsin–Madison Interim Director of Athletics Marcus Sedberry. "Succeeding in sport and thriving in the classroom continue to be hallmarks of Wisconsin Athletics."Â
The data for all schools includes the most current multi-year cohort (2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years). All 21 Wisconsin teams included in the report scored well above the threshold required by the NCAA for good standing while 16 stayed steady or saw a score increase from 2023-24 data to 2024-25 data. Â
The APR is a real-time measure of a team's academic performance and is calculated by reviewing variables such as eligibility, retention and graduation rates of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. Every Division I sports team across the nation calculates its APR each academic year, similar to a report card. Scholarship student-athletes each semester earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating.Â
As tracked through the APR, more than 14,000 former college athletes have returned to school to get their degrees since the NCAA created the measurement tool. Each of those students earns back a lost APR point for their team.Â
