
Five things to know: Badgers head to California for three meets

Bryan Clay Invitational, Long Beach Invite and Pacific Coast Invite on deck
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's track and field team is back on the road this weekend, splitting across three meets in California after a brief break from the Golden State.
The Badgers' distance squad travels to Azusa, California for the Bryan Clay Invitational, running Thursday, April 16 through Saturday, April 18. Thursday's events begin at 9:00 a.m. CT. Meet information and the full schedule can be found here.
The sprinters, throwers and jumpers will return to California after competing there in March at the Triton Invitational in LaJolla. This group is set for both the Pacific Coast Invite and the Beach Invite in Long Beach, hosted by Long Beach State University. The Pacific Coast Invite takes place on Thursday, April 16, with events beginning at 1:00 p.m. CT. The Beach Invite follows on Friday and Saturday, April 17–18, with competition starting at 10:15 a.m. CT on Friday and 12:00 p.m. CT on Saturday. 1. OUTDOOR OPENINGS: Seven Badgers opened their 2026 outdoor seasons last weekend at the UW–Platteville Invitational, including five athletes in the 5,000 meters. Sophomore Liv Phillips led the group with a fourth-place finish in the fastest heat in 1 minutes, 34.10 seconds. She was followed by Zaira Malloy-Salgado in 16:50.66 who finished seventh in her heat. Myra Stray, Annika Cutforth and Eva Kuehn also made their outdoor debuts, rounding out Wisconsin's scoring in the event
2. MAGNIFICENT MUNSON: Graduate student Maggie Munson began her outdoor campaign with a strong performance, winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase at UW–Platteville in 10:41.70. The Plymouth native now turns her attention to the Bryan Clay Invitational, where she is scheduled to compete again in the steeplechase.
3. DOMINATE DANNI: Thrower Danni Langseth continues her impressive outdoor season, earning three runner-up finishes in the shot put over the past month. Her standout performance came at the USC Trojan Invitational, where she threw a personal best of 55 feet, 6 ¼ inches (16.92m), moving her to No. 7 on Wisconsin's all-time list. She will compete in the shot put this weekend in Long Beach.
4. HOME BADGERS: Wisconsin will host its first outdoor meet of the season on Friday, May 1, when the Badger Challenge takes place at the McClimon Track/Soccer Complex beginning at 12:00 p.m. CT. The meet will also serve as the program's Senior Day, giving the Badgers an opportunity to recognize their graduating athletes before postseason competition begins.
5. UP NEXT: The Badgers will split squads again next week. The distance crew will travel east to compete at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia from April 23–25, while a squad will head to Des Moines for the Drake Relays, also scheduled for April 23–25.
