Cornhuskers run-rule UW in series finale
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin softball team struggled in its series finale against No. 7/5 Nebraska, falling 12-2 in five innings at Goodman Diamond on Sunday afternoon.Â
The Cornhuskers (33-6, 13-1 B1G) brought some power at the plate throughout the shortened game, blasting six extra base hits against the Badgers' (22-15, 7-8 B1G) pitching staff.Â
Nebraska's Ava Kuszak got the scoring started, pulling a two-run home run over the left field wall to give the Cornhuskers a 2-0 advantage early.Â
After Nebraska plated a combined three runs between the third and fourth inning, sophomore Kendra Lewis provided UW's first run of the weekend in the fourth—floating a sacrifice fly to the outfield to drive in freshman, pinch runner, Sydney Spear and cut the deficit to 5-1.Â
The Cornhuskers exploded for seven runs in the fifth frame with the help of a grand slam from Jordy Frahm and another two-run shot turned in by Kuszak to make it 12-1.Â
Sophomore Kaylie Whidden launched a solo home run in the bottom half of the fifth, but unfortunately for the Badgers, it was not enough. The Cornhuskers recorded the final out and completed the series sweep with a 12-2 victory.Â

- Nebraska's seven runs in the fifth inning is tied for the second-most UW has allowed in the frame, as they have done so three other times in program history.Â
- Kaylie Whidden hit the first home run of her career, blasting a solo shot to left field.Â
