
Wisconsin posts standout marks to open outdoor campaign

Onwunili climbs to No. 4 all-time as Wisconsin posts strong results across the board.
TAMPA, Fla. - The Wisconsin men's track and field team wrapped up its opening weekend of the outdoor season at the USF Alumni Invitational with standout performances from sophomore Joshua Onwunili and freshman Tonovila Hicks.
Onwunili opened his season with a personal best in the 100 meters, finishing fourth in 10.22 seconds. His time ranks No. 4 in the Wisconsin record book. Hicks added a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 14.51 seconds.Â
The 4x100‑meter relay team of Farraj Al Amin, Lorenz Forsman, Joshua Onwunili, and Zion Omotesa recorded a time of 41.16, which earned them 11th place overall.Â
In the throws, Jake Schaefer opened his outdoor campaign with a seventh‑place finish in the discus with a mark of 165‑10 (50.55m). Jack Schemling followed in his first collegiate discus appearance with a throw144‑2 (42.96m) and Robin Ott added a mark of 129‑11 (39.60m).
Nathan Nelson placed seventh in pole vault after clearing 15-11 (4.85m).
Al Amin, Forsman, Onwunill and Omotesa returned to the track to close out the day in the 4x400 meters. They finished in 3:16.19, which placed them 11th overall.
UP NEXT: Wisconsin heads to California for the first time this outdoor season to compete at the Ron and Sharlene Alice Trojan Invite in Los Angeles, hosted by the University of Southern California on Saturday, March 28.
