Freshman clinches historic win over No. 6 UCLA
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's tennis freshman Kaede Usui has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Usui played a key role in Wisconsin's victory over No. 6 UCLA, delivering the match-clinching singles win at the No. 6 spot. After dropping the first set, she rallied for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 three-set victory to secure the point for the Badgers. The win marked the highest-ranked victory in program history for Wisconsin.
The freshman has compiled a 4-3 singles record while competing across multiple spots in the lineup. Usui has also been strong in doubles play, posting a 6-1 overall record and currently riding a three-match winning streak.
This marks the first Big Ten weekly honor of her career.
