
Badgers complete doubleheader sweep at Nielsen

Wisconsin earns 4-0 victories over Omaha and Marquette on Sunday
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men's tennis team impressed the crowd at Nielsen Tennis Stadium, notching two clean sweep victories on Sunday. UW defeated both Omaha and in-state rival Marquette in 4-0 fashion during the doubleheader.Â
Wisconsin scored a smooth 4-0 win over Omaha during the first match at Nielsen. The Badgers earned the doubles point and saw wins at No. 4, No. 5Â and No. 6 singles to secure their first victory of the day.
UW claimed the doubles point against Omaha behind victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Wisconsin's combo of Matthew Fullerton and Patrik Meszaros scored a quick 6-1 victory and Ferdinand Kloesters and Michael Minasyan won 6-3 to notch the first team point of the match.
In singles action, Wisconsin handled play at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. At No. 5, Sachiv Kumar cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win while Kloesters won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4. The victories put the Badgers just one win away from clinching the match.
At No. 6, Oliver Olsson provided a 6-4, 6-4 straight set victory to clinch the match. The remainder of the matches were left unfinished.
The Badgers were warm and ready for an in-state battle with Marquette. They jumped out to an early lead after doubles play and saw singles victories at No. 2, No. 3Â and No. 5 to clinch their second sweep of the day.
In doubles action Fullerton and Meszaros scored another 6-1 victory at No. 3, while Kloesters and Minasyan put up a bagel (6-0) at No. 2 to secure the doubles point. Minasyan and Kloesters are a perfect 3-0 as a team this spring.Â
UW held the momentum going throughout singles play. At No. 3 singles, junior Tomas Zlatohlavek improved to 2-0 on the season with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 victory. Kloesters followed close behind, earning his fourth victory of the spring with a 6-0, 6-1Â win at No. 2 singles.
Kumar clinched the match at No. 5 singles, giving Wisconsin its third sweep of the season. Kumar's 6-2, 6-2 victory was his second of the day, and third of the weekend.
Wisconsin improves to 5-1 overall and 4-0 at home this season.
Up Next: The Badgers hit the road to take on Notre Dame on Friday, Feb. 6. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT in South Bend.
