No. 7 seed Badgers face No. 2 seed Bruins in Wednesday's quarterfinal
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's soccer team (10-4-4, 6-3-3 Big Ten) begins postseason play on Wednesday, Nov. 4, facing No. 2 seed UCLA (12-4-2, 9-2-1 Big Ten) in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Big Ten Tournament. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT at Energizer Park in St. Louis, Mo.
The Badgers enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed after closing the regular season unbeaten in their final four matches. Wisconsin will look to build on its recent postseason success after advancing to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals in 2025.
Here are five things to know before the Badgers face the Bruins.
1. Back in the Big Ten Tournament
Wisconsin returns to the Big Ten Tournament for its 15th consecutive appearance, dating back to 2011, excluding the 2020 season when the conference used a modified postseason format.
The Badgers have claimed three Big Ten Tournament championships in program history (1994, 2005 and 2014) and are seeking their first title in 12 years.
Wisconsin has advanced past its opening tournament match in two of its last three appearances, reaching the championship match in 2023 and the semifinals in 2025. Last season, the Badgers defeated Iowa, 3-0, in the quarterfinals before falling to Washington in the semifinals.
2. Know the Bruins
UCLA enters Wednesday's match up as the No. 2 seed after finishing the regular season with a 12-4-2 overall record and a 9-2-1 mark in Big Ten play.
The Bruins closed their regular season with consecutive victories over Nebraska and USC, including a 3-2 win over the Trojans on Oct. 30.
UCLA has been particularly strong defensively, recording seven shutouts in Big Ten play. The Bruins also demonstrated their offensive capabilities with a 5-0 victory over Indiana and a 3-2 win over USC.
3. History with UCLA
Wisconsin trails the all-time series against UCLA, 1-6-1, but enters Wednesday's contest unbeaten in its last two meetings with the Bruins.
The Badgers earned their first victory in program history over UCLA on Oct. 9, 2025, defeating the then-No. 9 Bruins, 1-0, at McClimon Soccer Complex. Wisconsin also held UCLA to a scoreless draw in 2024, giving the Badgers back-to-back shutouts against the Bruins.
Wednesday marks the third postseason meeting between the programs and their first in the Big Ten Tournament. UCLA won the previous two postseason match ups in the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and 2019.
4. Last Time Out
Wisconsin closed the regular season with a 2-2 draw against Iowa on Friday, Oct. 30, extending its unbeaten streak to four matches.
The Badgers entered the match up riding a three-match winning streak, having defeated Minnesota, Oregon and Washington. Wisconsin outscored those opponents 8-1, including a dominant 5-0 shutout of Oregon on Oct. 22.
Goalkeeper Drew Stover recorded eight saves against Iowa, helping Wisconsin secure a point in its final regular-season contest.
The Badgers finished the regular season with 10 victories and nine shutouts.
