Badgers travel to St. Cloud for a spooky Halloween series
MADISON, Wis. — The No. 3 Wisconsin women’s hockey team (6-2-0, 2-2-0 WCHA) will face the St. Cloud State Huskies (8-2-0, 6-0-0 WCHA) at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Friday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. CT, and Saturday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. CT.
Fans can watch the action on B1G+ or listen live to Aidan Michaels and Mark Greenhalgh on Fox Sports 1070.
Here are five things to know about the series:
1. COMING OFF A SWEEP
During Wisconsin’s last time out on the ice, the squad swept the Minnesota State Mavericks, 5-1, and 12-1.
During the first game of the series, five different Badgers found the back of the net. Charlotte Pickenhagen, Ava Murphy, Laney Potter, Cassie Hall and Nela Lopušanová scored the Badgers’ five goals. Freshman Lopušanová led the team in points with one goal and three assists, gathering four total.
The next day, Wisconsin came back even stronger, crafting a 12-1 win. Rookie Rosalie Tremblay collected her first career hat-trick during Saturday’s game of the series. The freshman had four goals and one assist. Joining Tremblay with multiple points was Cassie Hall and Haley Box, with four each. Also finding their way onto the scoreboard was Finley McCarthy, Mackenzie Jones, Hannah Halverson, Emma Venusio, Nela Lopušanová and Laney Potter.
2. AGAINST THE HUSKIES
The Badgers have an overall record of 100-11-5, with an away record of 45-5-4. The two teams last met up in February of 2026 at LaBahn Arena, where Wisconsin swept St. Cloud, 4-2, and 9-2. During the 9-2 win against St. Cloud State captain Kelly Gorbatenko became the eighth Badger in school history to tally a four-goal game.
UW’s last loss to the Huskies came on Feb. 3, 2023, where the Badgers fell 1-0 to SCSU in the seventh-ever Fill the Bowl game at the Kohl Center. In total, the Badgers have put up 539 goals against St. Cloud State and in the last ten matchups, Wisconsin is 8-0-2.
3. ROOKIE ON FIRE
Freshman Rosalie Tremblay had an impressive weekend against Minnesota State Oct. 16-17. After a five-point game with four goals and one assist, Tremblay was named WCHA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 19. Tremblay’s third goal of the game marked her first NCAA career hat trick.
The Sherbrooke, Quebec, native has nine points so far in her freshman season as a Badger, with at least two in every series she's played in. Tremblay currently ranks third among rookies in the WCHA in points, only behind teammate Nela Lopušanová and Minnesota’s Adrianna Milani.
She had a goal and an assist in her opening time on ice against St. Lawrence on Sept. 26. The freshman continued her streak with two points against Boston University on Oct. 1, her first time playing at LaBahn Arena.
4. AWAY FOR USA
Ten Badgers recently attended the Team USA National Team Camp. Wisconsin alumni, Caroline Harvey, Lacey Eden, Kirsten Simms, Laila Edwards, Britta Curl-Salemme, Jesse Compher, Hilary Knight and Casey O’Brien were joined by current Badgers Ava McNaughton and Laney Potter at the week-long camp in Plymouth, Michigan.
While the roster has not been released yet, the U.S. team will face Canada for a series of games on Oct. 28 in Windsor, Ontario, at the WFCU Centre and Oct. 30 in Plymouth, Michigan, at the USA Hockey Arena.
5. PAUSE ON PLAY
WCHA hockey will take a weekend off from Nov. 6-8 as the IIHF Women's World Championship will occur in Herning and Esbjerg, Denmark.
Current Badgers Rosalie Tremblay (Canada) and Adéla Šapovalivová (Czechia) have been named to their country’s respective rosters for the tournament.
Prior to the tournament, Sweden, Finland, Czechia and Switzerland will play a similar preliminary exhibition series in Södertälje, Sweden.
