Wisconsin falls to Omaha, 3-1, on senior day
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin softball team (33-20, 11-11) fell in its final game of the regular season, losing 3-1 to Omaha on senior day.
Wisconsin came up short in a tight 3-1 pitcher's duel between Omaha's Maddia Groff and Molly Jacobson for the Badgers. The game served as senior day, honoring Wisconsin's nine seniors: Grace O'Brien, Kate Linkletter, Gabi Salo, Brooke Kuffel, Molly Schlosser, Molly Jacobson, Ellie Hubbard, Emmy Wells, and Eden Dempsey.
Molly Jacobson (12-5) pitched all 7.0 innings, allowing three earned runs, but holding Omaha to just four hits. The graduate also struck out four batters on senior day.
Wisconsin struggled to hit off Groff, who collected 12 strikeouts in the game. The Badgers strung together five hits, with Hilary Blomberg and Molly Schlosser each coming up with two.
Omaha struck first and held a lead for the majority of the game. The team's first two runs came off sacrifice flies in the top of the second and third innings.
Down 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Alivia Bark drew a full-count walk, allowing Molly Schlosser to come up and rope a double into center. Bark scored to cut the deficit to just one run.
Jacobson faced trouble in the top of the fifth, letting up a single, a hit-by-pitch, and a walk all with two-outs. After a 15 minute rain delay, Omaha scored on a bases loaded walk, extending its lead to 3-1.
The score remained through the final two innings, with Wisconsin's regular season ending on a 3-1 loss. The second game of the originally planned double-header was canceled due to weather.
