WIsconsin will play Clemson in opening round
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's tennis team will begin their NCAA tournament against the Clemson Tigers in a match hosted by Auburn. The match will happen on May 2 at 10 AM CT.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS: Clemson enters the tournament with a 14-11 overall record which had them ranked at No. 36 in the final ITA rankings of the season. They played in a tough ACC conference, which helps to explain their solid ranking despite a tough record. Head coach Boomer Saia is in his second season leading the Tigers, with this being their first NCAA tournament appearance in his tenure. They have been sliding recently, losing five of their last six games to close out the regular season and conference championships. Clemson has one player ranked in the top 125 for singles with graduate Senior, Sophia Hatton. However, they also have a couple of duos in the duos rankings. No. 42 Amelie Smejkalova and Gaia Parravicini went 13-7 this season and No. 89 Candela Yecora and Romana Cisovska also had a great season going 18-9.
NCAA TOURNAMENT: The Badgers are one of 64 teams in the field vying for a national championship. The top overall seed is the Georgia Bulldogs who went 23-3 this season. Wisconsin's first match against Clemson will be hosted in Auburn, Alabama, and should they win that match they will play the winner of Auburn and South Carolina State. The final eight teams advance to the quarter finals hosted in Waco, Texas where the Championships are hosted.
