UW heads to two meets to continue outdoor season
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's track and field program splits up for a pair of meets this weekend, competing at the Mangrum Invite on Friday, March 28 and at the Hurricane Collegiate Invite on Saturday, March 29—beginning at 8:00 a.m. CT and 9:00 a.m. CT, respectively.Â

1. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin got off on the right foot at the USF Bulls Invite down in Tampa, Florida this past weekend—including a pair of standout performances turned in by Emma Kelley. The newcomer finished in first place in the 800 meters with a time of two minutes, 3.89 seconds—earning the seventh-fastest time in UW's Outdoor Track history in her first outdoor race as a Badger. Kelley would go on to place fourth in the 1500 meters as well, covering the distance in 4:22.70. Karina Janik finished with a personal best time in the 400 meter hurdles, sprinting the event in 1:01.11.Â
2. CALIFORNIA DREAMIN': The Badgers hit the road to California this week to compete in the aforementioned Mangrum Invite on Friday—kicking off the outdoor season for multiple athletes. Wisconsin's weight throw unit emerged as the No. 1 group in the nation during the indoor track & field season, according to the USTFCCCA. Those athletes will be back in action in an assortment of throwing events to start the outdoor season, looking to build off of their momentum from the winter. Shaina Zinter, after winning the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon in 2024, returns to the track for the first time, as she currently ranks eighth all-time in UW's Outdoor Track history in the event.Â
3. THROWING LONG AND FAR: Wisconsin returns multiple names who inserted themselves amongst some of the top performers in the Badgers' history in outdoor track, some of which will be competing this weekend. Taylor Kesner, Chikere Oduocha and Danni Langseth each made their mark on the discus in last year's action, while Chloe Lindeman and Asia Rave return as two of the top hammer throw athletes in the program's history.
4. AWARDS SEASON: To wrap up the indoor season, Kesner and Lindeman were each awardedf first-team All-American honors for their performances in the weight throw at the NCAA Championships. Each placed within the top-10 of the competition—including the individual champion in Kesner. Additionally, Langseth was awarded the Big Ten Women's Indoor Track & Field Sportsmanship honor at the conclusion of the Big Ten Indoor Championships just a couple of weeks ago.Â
5. UP NEXT: The Badgers will stay on the west coast in California for the upcoming week, competing at the Stanford Invitational on both Friday, Apr. 4 and Saturday, Apr. 5. Events are set to get underway at 7:00 a.m. CT on Friday and 8:00 a.m. CT on Saturday out in Palo Alto, California.
