Five Things to Know: Badgers open postseason action with Big Ten Indoor Championships

UW looks to win its third-straight indoor title this weekend in Indiana
MADISON, Wis. – The UW men's track & field team travels to Indianapolis, Indiana, for the Big Ten Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Badgers look to defend their 2023 and 2024 Big Ten indoor titles and earn their 25th Big Ten Indoor Championship in school history.
Events begin Friday at 9:10 a.m. CT, starting with the women's pentathlon 60m hurdles. Events begin Saturday at 9:20 a.m. CT with the men's heptathlon 60m hurdles. 1. WINNING WHITE: Joseph White put on a show at the Redbird Tune Up with two wins and top-10 finishes. In the weight throw, the senior took first with a heave of 76 feet, 6 ½ inches (23.33m), advancing up the UW Indoor Track rankings to No. 2 as well as No. 2 in the Big Ten with the mark, and No. 8 in the nation. The Kenosha native continued his show of dominance with another top-10 performance, winning the shot put with a toss of 64-3 ¼ (19.59m), raising to No. 4 all-time for Wisconsin, No. 2 in the Big Ten and No.6 in the nation. Fellow senior Jason Swarens follows White in the Big Ten rankings in third with a throw of 64-1 (19.53m).
2. DMR DOMINANCE: The team of Andrew Casey, Jalen Williams, Patrick Hilby and Adam Spencer won the men's distance medley relay with an astounding time of 9:20.15. This performance secured the second-fastest time in Wisconsin history, but also ranks second in the Big Ten and 11th in NCAA history.
3. GOING THE DISTANCE: The distance races will be a focal point for the Badgers this weekend. Adam Spencer will line up for the 3000 meters after shattering the school record this past December. The Melbourne, Australia native ranks second in the Big Ten in the 3000 meters with a time of 7:40.38. Redshirt freshman Matan Ivri rounds out the top-10 rankings for the event with a time of 7:52.38 that sees him slotted in ninth. Bob Liking is set to feature in the 5000 meters; he currently ranks first in the Big Ten after a record-breaking 13:22.80 race in December. Freshman Christian de Vaal rounds out the top-5 in fourth with a time of 13:41.17.
4. SPRINT SUCCESS: Wisconsin features two sprinters looking to take home the title this weekend. Giovanni Wearing, the reigning Big Ten Champion in the 60-meter hurdles, lines up in the event this weekend, holding the No. 3 time in school history set last season at 7.68. The Ashburn, Virginia native currently ranks third in the Big Ten for the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.74. Jalen Williams is set to compete in the 400 meters. The junior has won numerous races this season and has the seventh-fastest 400-meter time in the conference this season at 46.19.
5. UP NEXT: Select Badgers will travel to Virginia for the NCAA Championships starting Friday, March 14. Athletes who rank top-16 in Division I in their events qualify for NCAAs, while relays require a top-12 time.
