Badgers spilt up for meets at Notre Dame and Normal

Select sprints, distance head to Notre Dame as throwers travel to Normal
MADISON, Wis – The Wisconsin men's track and field team competes in two meets this weekend: the Red Bird Tune-up in Normal, Illinois, on Friday, Feb. 21 and the Alex Wilson Invite at Notre Dame on Feb. 22. The two meets will be the last before the 2025 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 28 and March 1. The Badgers will send throwers to Illinois State while select sprints and distance head to Notre Dame.

1. TOP-10 MARKS: Andrew Casey kicked off the Wisconsin Windy City Invite with a personal best runner-up finish time of 1:18.15 that comes in at tenth on the Indoor Top-10 list. Continuing the middle distance momentum, freshman Patrick Hilby delivered a thrilling performance in the 800-meter invite, placing third with a personal best top-10 time of 1:48.47. In the throws, Joseph White had a standout performance in the weight throw invite, finishing second with a personal-best toss of 72-6 ½ (22.11). The Kenosha, Wisconsin native currently ranks 18th in the nation and broke his own fourth-best mark in Wisconsin program history.
2. DISTANCE DOMINANCE: The distance crew continues their monopoly of top-20 spots in the Big Ten rankings. In the 3000 meters, Adam Spencer anchors the Badgers with a second place slot after his 7:40.38 performance at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. Matan Ivri rounds out the top-10 in ninth with a time of 7:52.38 at the Meyo Invite while graduate student Bob Liking joins the top-15 after his 7:54.28 run at the Wisconsin Windy City Invite. In the 5000 meters, five badgers rank within the top-10 while two rank in the top-5. Led by 2024 Big 10 runner up in the 5000 meters, Bob Liking ranks first with a time of 13:22.80. Christian de Vaal comes in at fourth, while Matan Ivri, Micah Wilson and Johnny Livingstone are 6-7-8.
3. THRILLING THROWS: In the shot put invitational at the Wisconsin Windy City Invite, the Badgers swept the top-3, with Jason Swarens coming in first with a throw of 64-1 (19.53m), Joseph White to follow with a throw of 61-2 ¼ (18.47m) and Andrew Stone to round it out with a time of 60-7 ¼ (18.47m). In the weight throw, all throwers placed top-5, with Joseph White leading in second, and Jason Swarens and Cole Hooper in fourth and fifth with throws of 64-5 ¾ (19.65m) and 64-3 ¾ (19.60m) respectively.
4. THE DMR RETURNS: Run one other time this season at the Dr. Sander Scorcher with Andrew Casey, Patrick Hilby, Adam Spencer and Archie Noakes and a time of 9:52.88, the Wisconsin DMR will be run at the Alex Wilson Invitational this Saturday. Andrew Casey will start, handing it off to Jalen Williams for a quick 400, to Patrick Hilby for the 800 and anchored by Adam Spencer.
5. UP NEXT: The Badgers travel to Indianapolis, Indiana, for the 2025 Big Ten Indoor Championships starting Feb. 28. UW took home the title last year, marking the second-straight year the Badgers have won the indoor Big Ten crown. The group has already won one Big Ten Title this year, as Wisconsin captured its seventh straight cross country Big Ten Championship in November.
