Daniels leads Wisconsin with 18 points
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Wisconsin women's basketball team (6–3, 0–0 B1G) fell 69-50 to James Madison (5-3, 0-0) on Saturday afternoon at the Daytona Beach Classic.
Kyrah Daniels led the Badgers with 18 points, shooting 7-for-17 from the field and 4-for-10 from deep. Destiny Howell and Breauna Ware added nine points each, combining for four made threes, while Gift Uchenna and Ronnie Porter each pulled down five rebounds.
How it happened
Wisconsin opened strong offensively, shooting 40% from the field and connecting on three threes in the first 10 minutes. Early buckets from Daniels and Zaja helped the Badgers take a 17–16 lead, and a deep three from Lily Krahn put Wisconsin back in front late in the period.
JMU capitalized in the second quarter with a 12–2 run. A late jumper from Uchenna ended the drought, but Wisconsin entered halftime down 37–23.
The Badgers regrouped with their best offensive stretch of the game, shooting 50 percent overall and hitting four threes in the quarter. Ware knocked down two triples, and Daniels added two more to pull Wisconsin within single digits. Daniels scored five of Wisconsin's nine fourth-quarter points, but the deficit remained out of reach as JMU closed out the 69–50 result.
The Badgers shot 29.0% (18-62) from the field, 28.1% (9-32) from beyond the arc, and 62.5% (5-8) from the free throw line.
On the other end, JMU shot 39.4% (26-66) from the field, 26.9% (7-26) from beyond the arc, and 66.7% (10-15) at the line.
