MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 23 Wisconsin men's basketball team stifled SIUE 94-69 Monday at the Kohl Center, improving to 4-0 for the second-consecutive season.
John Blackwell had 24 points for Wisconsin (4-0) thanks to five three-pointers, while adding 6 rebounds, to boot. Nick Boyd dropped 22 points on 6-of-13 shooting, and dished out 6 assists. Austin Rapp had 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Nolan Winter chipped in 9 points and 8 boards.
The sides traded baskets for the opening 10 minutes before Bucky sparked a 9-0 into the eight-minute media timeout. Boyd hit a transition three-pointer to cap the run as he finished the opening half with 10. Wisconsin carried a 48-41 lead into halftime against SIUE (3-2) as Blackwell had 16 points.
The Badgers flew out of the break, using a 16-0 spurt to balloon the advantage to 20 points. They carried that momentum through the period as Rapp led the second-half charge, putting up 12 points to close out the 25-point victory.
Boyd has now scored in double-figures in all 4 games this season, including 3 games with 20+ points. His 80 points scored in the first four games of the season are the third-most in school history as only John Tonje (94 in 2024-25) and Johnny Davis (81 in 2021-22).
Meanwhile Blackwell topped 20 points for the 2nd time this season and the 11th time in his career.
As a team Wisconsin is averaging 93.3 points per game, which ranks fourth in school history through 4 games.
From the Court
Head Coach Greg Gard
"Our ability to share the ball offensively, keep the pace and stay in sync was important. We've got guys that can score, but definitely, I thought we were much better in the second half at stopping the ball. We need to move on to Friday. We need to do this type of test not only on Friday, but next week, too, in San Diego."
Junior John Blackwell
"We have gotten better every game. I think we have got to grow and learn each others game a little bit more, but it's only going to get better… The second half, the maturity showed. Our leadership showed and we just buckled down that second half."
Up Next: Wisconsin will hit the road to take on No. 9 BYU on Friday as a part of the Bad Boy Mower's Series - Salt Lake City. Tip is set for 3 p.m. CT at the Delta Center and fans can watch the game on Peacock.
