Wisconsin earns first win over Green Bay since 2016
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's basketball team (4-1, 0-0 B1G) earned a 76-72 win over the Green Bay Phoenix (4-1, 0-0 Horizon) for the first time since 2016 to keep a perfect 4-0 record in the Kohl Center.
Destiny Howell led the Badgers with a season-best 23 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the field and hitting three from deep. Breauna Ware added 12 points and three rebounds off the bench, helping fuel a Wisconsin second unit that outscored Green Bay's bench 29–8.
How it happened:
After a slow opening quarter, Wisconsin found its rhythm in the second period, outscoring Green Bay 21–12 to erase a double-digit deficit. Howell led the surge with 13 first-half points on 5-for-8 shooting, including two key threes.
The Badgers forced eight first-half turnovers and held Green Bay to 31% shooting in the second quarter. Strong rebounding from Kyrah Daniels and Dorja Zaja contributed to Wisconsin's 19–15 edge on the glass at halftime. The Badgers trailed just 37–36 at the break.
Wisconsin carried that momentum into the third quarter, creating a 7-0 run over 1:14, capped by back-to-back baskets from Howell and Ronnie Porter. Howell surpassed her season high during the frame, ending the third with 17 points as Wisconsin built a 66–56 advantage.
In the fourth, the Badgers closed the door by shooting 56% from the field. Sophomore Alie Bisballe delivered six of her 12 points in the final period, and Howell added seven more to extend the lead to double digits. Green Bay cut the margin to four in the final minute, but Wisconsin sank clutch free throws to secure the 76–72 win and extend its home streak.
The Badgers shot 43.9% (25-57) from the field, 36.0% (9-25) from three, and 70.8% (17-24) from the charity stripe.
On the opposing end, Green Bay shot 43.9% (25-57) from the field, 28.6% (6-21) from three point range, and 84.2% (16-19) from the free throw line.
