Big wins across the lineup secure another early season win
ATHENS, Ohio - Wisconsin wrestling delivered another steady team performance on Friday night, taking down Ohio, 27-10 on the road behind a series of dominant lightweight wins and a strong finish in the upper weights.
Zan Fugitt set the tone early with another dominant performance, holding his opponent scoreless in an 11-0 run on the way to a 15-2 tech fall. Carson Exferd followed with a gritty effort, battling back from a 6-7 deficit to take a 9-8 decision over Abe Hermes.
At 149, Joseph Zargo kept the momentum going, staying steady through extended blood time and finishing with a 17-5 major decision. At 157, Luke Mechler battled back from a 1-6 deficit, tying the match by the close of the second period before finishing with a third-period takedown to secure an 11-7 decision.
Cody Goebel added more points shortly after, posting a 16-2 major decision that pushed the team score to 21-0 through six bouts.
Ohio responded with a run in the middle and upper weights, but Wisconsin closed the dual with another strong finish. Braxton Amos stepped in and sealed the night, earning a pin in 4:47 to lock in the win for the Badgers.
Looking Ahead
The Badgers return to Wisconsin on November 25 for a dual against Bucknell at Stoughton High School, with action beginning at 6 p.m.
