UW travels to Michigan State, Illinois to continue Big Ten play
MADISON, Wis. - The No. 11 Wisconsin volleyball team continues the second half stretch of conference play with a pair of road matches this week, taking on Michigan State on Friday, Nov. 14 and Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 15.
The Badgers will take on their first back-to-back challenge of the Big Ten season, as Friday's match will take place at 6:00 p.m. CT, while Saturday's first serve will get underway at 8:00 p.m. CT. Both games will be streamed on B1G+.
UW is fresh off of a pair of ranked victories at the UW Field House, defeating No. 22 Minnesota in four sets this past Wednesday—finishing the week with a sweep over No. 18 Indiana.
Setter Charlie Fuerbringer made her return on Sunday after missing nine matches due to injury, guiding the Badgers to their best hitting percentage against a ranked conference foe this season. UW swung .351 (39 - 6 - 94) on the afternoon.
Outside hitter Mimi Colyer was the standout, winning Big Ten Co-Player of the Week after turning in a combined 35 kills in those two matches. The senior finished with 21 kills against the Golden Gophers to mark her sixth match with 20 or more in the category. Middle blocker Carter Booth excelled on the offensive end as well, racking up a season-best 11 kills on 15 swings with zero errors against Indiana.
Libero Kristen Simon was key in holding the Hoosiers to their second-lowest hitting percentage of the season on Sunday, as the freshman turned in 15 digs to notch double-digit dig totals for her 13th consecutive game.
The Badgers will look to extend their winning streak this week, beginning with the Spartans on Friday night. UW holds a 15-2 record against Michigan State during head coach Kelly Sheffield's tenure—including wins in the past 10 matches.
Last year, the Badger Block enjoyed a quality showing on Senior Day at the UW Field House, where Fuerbringer concluded the match with a career-best six to complement Booth's nine.
Wisconsin is set to rematch against the Fighting Illini after sweeping Illinois earlier in the year. Outside hitter Una Vajagic and Colyer each finished with double-digit kill totals. The Badgers put together their longest serving run of the season versus the Fighting Illini, winning 11 consecutive rallies to win set one of the match.
UW will be vying for their 12th-straight victory over Illinois, as they have not lost a match in Champaign since 2018.
After this weekend, the Badgers will return to the UW Field House to battle against No. 9 Purdue on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. CT. The match will be televised on Big Ten Network.
