Sprints, distance and throwers head to Notre Dame and Louisville

MADISON. Wis. - The Wisconsin men's track and field team competes in two meets this weekend: the Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky on and the Meyo Invite in Notre Dame, Indiana. Competition begins at 10:00 a.m. in Louisville and 3:00 p.m. at Notre Dame on Friday, Jan. 31.

THROWERS ON CENTER STAGE: The thrower returns to center stage after an impressive weekend in New York. In the weight throw invitational, Joseph White made history with a remarkable throw of 71-9 1/2 (21.88m), moving him from fifth to fourth all-time in Wisconsin's records. The Badger stole the show in the shot put invitational. Andrew Stone claimed victory with a throw of 62 feet, 5 inches (19.02m), edging out teammate Joseph White, who finished second with a 62-4 (19.00m) effort that replaced his previous best on the UW all-time indoor list. Jason Swarnes rounded out the top five for the Badgers with a fourth-place finish mark of 61-2 ¾ (18.66m).

THE DMR RETURNS: The distance medley relay (DMR) team of Andrew Casey, Jalen Williams, Patrick Hilby, and Bryce Stachewicz delivered a commanding performance, earning a thrilling victory with a time of 9 minutes, 52.88 seconds. This impressive run not only secured the top spot in D1 track this season but also showcased the team's remarkable synergy and competitive edge.

MAJORING IN THE MILE: Wisconsin's dominance in the mile was on full display at recent meets. At the Dr. Sander Invitational in New York, Adam Spencer broke the four-minute barrier with a time of 3:58.04, finishing eighth in the Pro-Elite section, while Logan Measner led a group of Badgers in the Mile Invitational with a time of 4:03.01, closely followed by Bryce Stachewicz, Patrick Hilby, and Andrew Casey. At the Fighting Illini Invite, Liam Newhart won the mile in 4:06.42, with Johnny Livingstone and Christian de Vaal finishing second and third in 4:06.72 and 4:07.76, respectively, sweeping the podium.

VAULTING TO VICTORY: Wisconsin shined in the pole vault as Augustus Counard-Ciechanowski secured the win with a personal-best clearance of 16-4 (4.98m), narrowly edging out teammate Hunter Cook, who matched the height and finished second. In the heptathlon, Quinn Lansill delivered a strong two-day effort, highlighted by a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.42.

UP NEXT: The Badgers are set to compete at the DePaul Invite in Chicago and the prestigious Millrose Games in New York.
