No. 2 Badgers hush No. 10 Huskies, 2-1, in overtime

UW extends win streak to 10 in front of sellout crowd

MADISON, Wis. – Thanks to a thrilling game-winning goal in overtime from Caroline Harvey, the No. 2 Wisconsin women's hockey team secured a 2-1 victory over No. 10 St. Cloud State on Saturday night at LaBahn Arena.

The Badgers (23-4-0, 16-4-0-1-1-0 WCHA) scored two unanswered as they stunned the Huskies (15-11-1, 10-9-1-0-2-0 WCHA) in front of a sellout crowd to earn their 10th-straight win.

St. Cloud State struck first, finding the back of the net just over two minutes into the first period.

Halfway into the second period, Maddi Wheeler snuck the puck past SCSU goaltender Jojo Chobak to knot the game at 1-1.

With either team unable to capitalize in the third period, the game went to overtime. Just over two minutes into extra hockey, Harvey called the game with a shot to the top shelf.

Jane Gervais stopped 24 of the shots she faced for her 12th win of the year.

Three Notes of the Game
- Caroline Harvey's crucial overtime tally marked her first game-winning goal since scoring 16 minutes into overtime against Minnesota in the 2023 Frozen Four to send the Badgers to the national title game. It marks her third game-winning overtime goal as she also scored an OT winner at St. Cloud State last season.
- Wisconsin outshot SCSU 47-25, including a 19-8 advantage in the second period.
- The Badgers recorded their 13th sellout of the year on Saturday as 2,273 fans came to watch UW stun the Huskies in overtime.

Straight from the Rink
Head Coach Mark Johnson
On the challenging nature of the game:

"They put us on our heels early, they had good energy and were well prepared to play. It was one of the more physical games we've played all year, we had to make the decision to compete and we did that. We got a nice goal and some nice chances in the second period. It's tough to score at this time of year, and they've got a great goaltender. It was a great game and just goes to show how good our hockey league is, and how challenging it is to win."

On Caroline Harvey's first goal since returning from injury:
"She's had some good looks on the power play, she gets more excited than a lot of our players, she just enjoys scoring. I knew she was looking for her first goal since getting back. There wasn't a lot of space to get the puck in there, but obviously it was a great shot."

Sophomore Defender Caroline Harvey
On her exciting game-winning goal in overtime:

"So in that play, I remember regrouping with Lacy (Eden) and all I was thinking the whole time was each person just has to beat their player on the ice. Essentially, you beat them one on one and then someone's gonna be open and just try to shoot and put the puck in the net."

Senior Forward Maddi Wheeler
On returning tomorrow and keeping the energy:

"It was a great game, I never felt like we were playing from behind. I know, last weekend we were really playing from behind, but I thought we had control of this game. There are things that we need to work on, but they're a good team. It's credit to them, they're physical, they're hard to play against and they've got good goaltending. We need to come back tomorrow and just do the exact same thing."

Up Next: The Badgers and Huskies wrap up their series on Sunday with a 4 p.m. tilt at LaBahn Arena. The contest is sold out, but fans can watch on Big Ten Plus or listen on 100.9 FM.
