Jane Gervais and Laila Edwards bump fists after a win against Bemidji State on Feb. 9, 2024

1. LAST TIME OUT

The Badgers last faced Bemidji State, resulting in a 10-0 victory in the series opener and a 7-0 in the finale. Ten different Badgers found the back of the net as UW outscored BSU, 17-0.

On Friday, Laila Edwards and Kirsten Simms each posted their first collegiate hat tricks as Wisconsin made a statement with their 10-goal win. Thanks to three assists in Friday’s game, Casey O’Brien became the 10th Badger in school history to tally 100 career assists.

On Saturday night, O’Brien went on to light the lamp twice herself as UW completed the season sweep of the Beavers. Goalies Jane Gervais and Ava McNaughton each picked up a shutout in the series.

2. HARVEY GOES BACK-TO-BACK

For the second week in a row, sophomore Caroline Harvey has earned WCHA Defender of the Week honors. The Salem, New Hampshire, native recorded a goal and three assists during UW's sweep at Bemidji State, all while posting an impressive +7 plus/minus.

On Friday, Harvey posted a goal and two assists to help lead the Badgers to a 10-0 triumph before adding an assist in UW's 7-0 win on Saturday. The second-team All-American also joined the 50-career assist club over the weekend.

Despite only playing in 21 of Wisconsin’s 30 games this season, Harvey leads all defenders in the WCHA with 31 points thanks to five goals and 26 assists.

3. CANADA REIGNS VICTORIOUS

Despite being down 3-0 in the opening games of the 2023-24 Rivalry Series, Canada completed the reverse sweep for the second year in a row to reign victorious.

Team Canada swept the U.S. in February, winning 4-2 on Feb. 7 before wrapping up their time on home soil with a 3-0 triumph on Feb. 9. Former Badgers Sarah Nurse and Emily Clark each lit the lamp in the shutout. The rivals then headed to St. Paul, Minnesota, for the series finale, where Canada blanked the USA, 6-1, to claim yet another series win.

Seventeen Badgers competed in the seven-game series, with six skating for Canada and 11 representing the United States. Wisconsin alum Hilary Knight tied for the lead in points among all skaters with six, while Sarah Nurse posted five.

4. AGAINST THE GOPHERS

Wisconsin trails the all-time series against Minnesota, 48-57-16, but the Badgers controlled the Border Battle in the 2022-23 season.

UW went 3-0-2 against UM to capture both series wins in the regular season before knocking out the Gophers in the national semifinal game thanks to a goal from Caroline Harvey nearly 17 minutes into overtime.

When playing Minnesota earlier in the season in Minneapolis, the two rivals split the series, with the Badgers bouncing back with a 5-1 triumph after dropping the series opener, 5-3.
