Wisconsin propels past Purdue after goal-scoring surge

The Badgers respond fast and dominantly after early Boilmakers goal
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Wisconsin women's soccer team used another dominant scoring spree, notching a a trio of scores in the second half as it defeated Purdue, 5-2, Thursday evening at Folk Field.
Within the first twenty minutes of the game Wisconsin found itself fighting as it went down 1-0 due to an early goal by Kayla Budish. Purdue remained in control for a good part of the first half until Natalie Viggiano slotted in a cross sent through the box by Aryssa Mahrt in the 23rd minute.
With that goal putting the Badgers on the board, things began to click for Wisconsin. Adee Boer scored her third goal of the season as Viggiano returned the favor and slipped a pass through the defense to set Boer up on the left side of the box in the 31st minute. The Badgers went into half up one with all of the momentum on their side.
That momentum clearly carried into the latter half of the match as Wisconsin netted three more goals to put the game out of reach for Purdue. Viggiano had one of the best games of her career as she scored a rocket from way outside the box to make the game 3-2 in the 66th minute. Just three minutes later Viggiano sent a ball up to Aryssa Mahrt, who put her own rebound away after Purdue's keeper blocked the initial shot.
Two minutes after Mahrt's goal, Emma Jaskaniec notched the fifth goal of the game for the Badgers. Freshman Liv Curry sent a ball forward to Jaskaniec, who volleyed the ball into the top right of the net. Although, the Boilmakers scored with less than a minute left, Wisconsin remained victorious in a dominant fashion.
The Badgers return home to face Indiana for their first Big Ten matchup at home this Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.
