Badgers Explode in Second Half, Down Northern Illinois 3-0
September 12, 2022 | Women's Soccer
The first half of the match mirrored the gloomy atmosphere the two teams were playing in as both the Badgers and Northern Illinois struggled to find their rhythm. Wisconsin had only put three shots on target, though it held 63% of the possession over the first 45 minutes.
As things progressed into the second half, the home team picked up the pace and found their goal-scoring rhythm. In the span of just over ten minutes, Wisconsin put three balls past the NIU's defense to take a commanding lead.
It was no one other than Emma Jaskaniec that got Wisconsin's first goal early into the second half. After winning a corner in the 64th minute, Aidan McConnell sent a perfect ball into the box to find the senior unmarked. Jaskaniec's goal set the tone of the latter half of the match, as just over two minutes later Adee Boer found the ball in front of an open goal to grab the team's second.
Riley Philbin made an impact off the bench as she entered into the second half to assist the third goal of the game. Claire Odmark was the player to get a hold of Philbin's cross, and all of a sudden the Badgers held a comfortable lead with just over 15 minutes left in the game.
Wisconsin is now 5-1-2 as it heads into the start of Big Ten play this upcoming Friday at Iowa.
