No. 3 Badgers fend off No. 5 Bulldogs 4-3

UW takes four of six points at Minnesota Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. –  The No. 3 Wisconsin women's hockey team battled tough against No. 5 Minnesota Duluth and earned a 4-3 win at AMSOIL Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Caroline Harvey, Lacey Eden and Nicole LaMantia each potted goals for the Badgers (10-2-0, 7-1-0-1-1-0 WCHA)  in their victory over the Bulldogs (7-3-0, 3-3-0-1-1-0 WCHA), with Harvey scoring two of the four goals.
Harvey started things off for the Badgers with a power-play tally four minutes in to give UW a 1-0 lead.
However, UMD would counter with a power-play goal of its own minutes later to tie the game up at 1-1.
A UMD goal in the second period was answered with a laser from Eden, making it 2-2.
Harvey added her second of the game to give UW the lead back, before LaMantia extended the lead to 4-2 with her first of the series.
UMD scored on a 5-on-3 power play to make it a 4-3 game and got the puck in the net with under two minutes to go, but UW challenged the play and the goal was waved off due to offsides.
Three Notes of the Game:

Head Coach Mark Johnson
On his overall thoughts on the game:
"It was nice to get the win. Third period was a little unusual, but I liked the way they competed. We got ourselves in a little bit of a jam at the end with our penalties, but we did what we needed to do to get to the finish line. It was a good win."
On the team putting forth full effort all game:
"Was a great team win for our group this afternoon. Took a great team effort to get the job done, all the way to the very end everyone putting their bodies on the line to get the much needed blocks that we had. So proud of this team for finishing strong and going a full 60 minutes. We are just getting started and have so much more to prove this season."
Sophomore Jane Gervais
On facing their toughest opponent of the season so far:
"It was definitely a different game. Getting more shots makes it easier to stay into it, but it was definitely a good challenge and I think the team responded really well."
Up Next:
The Badgers will have two weeks off from competition before hosting No. 2 Minnesota at LaBahn Arena. Puck drop on both Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Nov. 20 is set for 2 p.m.
