Five Things to Know: Badgers head to Duluth to face Bulldogs

UW takes nine-game winning streak to Duluth
MADISON, Wis. – The third-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team heads back to Minnesota this weekend to take on No. 5 Minnesota Duluth for the first time this season at AMSOIL Arena. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers advanced to 6-0-0 in conference play after sweeping Bemidji State at home this past weekend, blanking the Beavers 8-0 and 7-1. Thirteen different Badgers scored in the sweep against the Beavers, including Sophie Shirley and Lacey Eden who both scored twice, and Vivian Jungels who tallied her first as a Badger. Goalies Cami Kronish and Jane Gervais each picked up a win in the series, with Kronish adding her fourth shutout of the season.Â
2. SIMMS GRABS FIRST WEEKLY HONORS: Freshman Kirsten Simms was named WCHA Rookie of the Week following a five-point weekend against Bemidji State. The Plymouth, Michigan native posted a career-high three points in UW's 8-0 win on Thursday with a goal and two assists, before adding two more assists the next night. Simms ended the weekend with a +4 plus/minus rating and two blocks. The freshman joins fellow rookies Caroline Harvey and Claire Enright in being honored as UW grabs the WCHA Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth week in a row.Â
4. SHIRLEY JOINS THE RECORD BOOKS: After a three-point weekend, Sophie Shirley now ranks 10th in school history in career points with 168 (76G, 92A). The senior forward is just two points away from tying Abby Roque for ninth in program history. Also ranking 11th in program history for assists, Shirley is just eight helpers away from being the ninth player in school history to record 100 career assists.
5. BADGERS ON BROADCAST: The Badgers have officially announced their 11-game radio schedule for the 2022-23 season, which includes the upcoming series against the Bulldogs. All games will air on WTSO 1070AM and can be heard on the iHeart Radio app. The broadcast features Reid Magnum and volunteer assistant coach Mark Greenhalgh will join for home broadcasts.Â

The Badgers were 2-1-1 against the Bulldogs in the 2021-22 season, last meeting Feb. 5, 2022 for a 5-1 UW win at home.
