Badgers host Clarkson in a pair of non-conference games
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team faces Clarkson in a pair of non-conference games Friday and Saturday, Nov. 26-27.Â
Rosters:
Wisconsin | Clarkson
Here are six quick things to know before tuning in:
1 - FACE OFF AGAINST CANCER:Â On the 30th anniversary of the passing of "Badger Bob" Johnson, the architect of the great tradition of the Wisconsin men's hockey program, Wisconsin men's hockey will hold its annual 'Faceoff Against Cancer' game when it takes on Clarkson on Friday, Nov. 26, at the Kohl Center.
Three-time NCAA championship-winning head coach, Olympic coach and Stanley Cup champion, Bob Johnson passed away from brain cancer in 1991.
In honor of "Badger Bob's" legacy, the Badger will hand out 6,000 rally towels and hold a ceremonial puck drop prior to the game.
Throughout the game, UW will recognize the work of those fighting the disease including survivors and first responders, as well as The Ride and Casting for Kids, two events with ties to the program that raise money for local cancer research through the UW Carbone Cancer Center and the American Family Children's Hospital.
Â
2 - FROM THE HISTORY BOOKS: The Badgers hold the edge 6-5-2 in matchups against Clarkson, winning their most recent meeting 4-3 on Oct. 26, 2019. Wisconsin split that series after dropping the first game 4-0.
3 - MOE-TIME: Transfer goaltender Jared Moe started both games in net against Michigan State last weekend for the first time this season. Despite the Badgers' 3-2 loss on Friday, Moe had an impressive 37 save performance and boasts a .922 save percentage on the season.Â
4 - 150 CLUB: Two Badgers reached a major career milestone last weekend. Josh Ess and Tarek Baker skated in their 150th game donning the Cardinal and White in game two of Wisconsin's series against Michigan State. Ess, a defender from Lakeville, Minnesota, and Baker, a forward and Badgers' captain from Verona opted to return to UW for a fifth year, taking advantage of their extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
5 - SCOUTING CLARKSON: Clarkson tied No. 9 Quinnipiac 2-2 in overtime and beat Princeton 8-3 in their most recent matchups. Zach Tsekos leads the Knights with eight goals and five assists in 13 games and is coming off a three-point night (1 goal, 2 assists) against Princeton.Â
Clarkson has also been able to hold their opponents to just five power-play goals on 50 opportunities for the third-best penalty kill in the nation at 90 percent.Â
