Badgers unable to erase 11-point halftime deficit

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's basketball team fell to Providence, 63-58, Monday night.

The Badgers got out to a first-half lead, up by six points with 9:11 left in the first thanks to a Brad Davison 3-pointer. But the Friars responded with a 10-0 run to control the rest of the period, as the Badgers got into early foul trouble.

Going into the second half, Providence was outscoring UW in the paint, 14-6. The Badgers took note and got their first 10 points in the key.

Wisconsin pulled within five points or less four times in the second-half. With 15:54 left in the game, Providence was up, 40-35, and they controlled the game for a majority of the half until UW stormed back with 3:18 left in the contest to put the game at 55-50 and later at 58-53 with :52 on the clock.

The Badgers got a quick layup after a Friar free throw to cut the Providence lead, 59-55, but were unable to erase the 11-point deficit from the first half.

Senior guard Brad Davison stepped up on both sides of the court, finishing with a season-high 25 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.

Junior forward Tyler Wahl scored a career-high 16 points.

Next up, Wisconsin heads to Las Vegas to compete in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. The Badgers will open the tournament facing Texas A&M on Monday Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. CT.
