Five Things to Know: Badgers return home to face SCSU

UW to recognize 2021 NCAA Championship Team on Saturday

MADISON, Wis. – After opening its season with back-to-back road sweeps, the top-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team returns to Madison to take on St. Cloud State this weekend at LaBahn Arena. Puck drop on Saturday and Sunday is set for 2 p.m.

Prior to Saturday's game, the Badgers will recognize their 2021 NCAA Championship Team and will unveil the national championship banner. Fans are recommended to be in their seats by 1:45 p.m. for the ceremony. In addition, UW will be giving away mini replica banners during Saturday's contest.
Saturday's game is sold out and a limited amount of tickets still remain for Sunday's game. Fans will have to pay for parking on Saturday but parking will be free in Lot 91 on Sunday. More information can be found here.

Fans that can't make it to LaBahn can watch both games on B1G+ and can listen to the games on 1070 AM as Reid Magnum and Mark Greenhalgh will have the call.

1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers are coming off of a sweep at Merrimack, earning a 4-0 win on Friday and a 5-0 win on Saturday. Makenna Webster, Casey O'Brien and Sarah Wozniewicz all scored multiple goals during the sweep while Daryl Watts and Marianne Picard also scored during the sweep. Kennedy Blair stopped all 29 shots she faced to earn back-to-back shutouts on the road.

2. MORE HARDWARE: Two more Badgers earned WCHA Player of the Week honors this week as Makenna Webster was named the WCHA Forward of the Week while Sarah Wozniewicz was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week. Webster posted seven points off two goals and five assists during the weekend and has a six-game goal streak heading into this weekend. Wozniewicz scored her first career goal, a game-winning goal, on Friday before adding a power-play tally on Saturday.

3. WOW, THEY'RE ON FIRE: The Badgers' top line of Daryl Watts, Casey O'Brien and Makenna Webster all rank in the top-five in the NCAA in scoring this year as Webster leads all skaters with 13 points this year, O'Brien ranks second with 11 points while Watts checks in at fifth with 9 points. Webster has already matched her season point total from last year while O'Brien surpassed her point tally from 2020-21. Watts, the veteran of the line, moved into ninth place in NCAA history in career points and is one point away from becoming the ninth player in NCAA history to record 250 career points.
4. FINALLY HOME: It will be more than 600 days since UW has taken the ice in Madison in front of fans as the last time UW played with a crowd in Madison was UW's Fill the Bowl game at the Kohl Center on Feb. 16, 2020, when UW had 14,361 fans in attendance in a 1-1- tie vs. Ohio State. This Saturday's game is the first game in front of fans at LaBahn Arena since UW honored its 2020 Senior Class on Feb. 15, 2020.  UW is 133-14-7 all-time at LaBahn Arena and is 85-4-4 at the rink since the start of the 2015-16 season.

5. BADGER CONNECTIONS: Huskies' associate head coach Jinelle (Zaugg) Siergiej and assistant coach Molly Engstrom are both Wisconsin hockey alumni. Siergiej played for the Badgers in 2004-2008, was part of two national title teams and scored one of the most memorable goals in school history against Harvard during the fourth overtime of the 2007 NCAA quarterfinals. Engstrom played for the Badgers in 2004-2007, was a two-time WCHA Defensive Player of the Year, a 2006 Olympic Bronze medal winner and 2010 Olympic Silver medal winner.
