ST. CLOUD, Minn.—  A pair of Wisconsin women's hockey seniors stole the show in St. Cloud on Friday afternoon as Brette Pettet and Daryl Watts each recorded hat tricks to lead the No. 1 Badgers to a 10-0 win over St. Cloud State. 

Pettet and Watts became the fifth Badger duo to net hat tricks in the same game and the first to do so since Emily Clark and Annie Pankowski accomplished the feat against St. Cloud State on Jan. 13, 2017. 

Pettet and Watts weren't the only Badgers (7-2-0, 7-2-0-1 WCHA) to light the lamp against the Huskies (3-8-1, 3-8-1-0) as Britta Curl, Lacey Eden, Sophie Shirley and Natalie Buchbinder all added goals. 

Pettet put the Badgers on the board early with her third goal in two games, capitalizing on UW's first power play of the game to give UW a 1-0 lead. 

The Badgers scored five in the second period, including three in a 2:41 span thanks to tallies from Curl, Eden and Watts. 

Pettet added her second power play strike of the afternoon before posting an even-strength goal with just over 2 minutes left in the period to complete the hat trick. It was her second career hat trick as the co-captain posted a hat trick in her fourth career game against Mercyhurst. 

It was Watts' turn to shine in the third, as she scored 19 seconds into the period before completing the hat trick at the 7:26 mark. It marked Watts' first hat trick as a Badger. 

Shirley and Schneider also scored in the final frame to round out the scoring for UW.

Kennedy Blair started the game for UW and earned the win, stopping eight shots in the first two periods before Breanna Blesi made her season debut and stopped all six shots she faced.

Three Notes of the Game

• Watts extended her point streak to nine games thanks to a six-point effort on Friday. The 2018 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner leads the NCAA in scoring with 19 points this year. 

• The Badgers outshot St. Cloud State 49-15, including a 21-5 advantage in the middle frame.

• Wisconsin's power play was stellar on Friday, converting three of its five opportunities, against a St. Cloud State team that had allowed only one power-play goal to its opponents in its previous 11 games.

On the game overall:
"The second and third periods were real good. We scored some goals with intelligent plays and good passing and did little things to create those opportunities. Overall it was a great game, everybody got a lot of ice time and everybody worked hard building off of what we did last week and continued the process. We'll hopefully come back tomorrow with the same type of effort."

On Pettet and Watts:
"I think for them, we've played more games and they're getting into game condition which helps out. Obviously when they have success it builds confidence. One of the big reasons is that our power play has started to work pretty well, Brette has been able to capitalize on some power play goals and open up the game with a power play and we scored on it."
