Lewis, Laszewski and Gilreath recognized by conference
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's basketball team saw three of its members earn Big Ten honors, as the conference announced the winners of its regular season accolades on Monday.
Sophomore Imani Lewis earned second-team All-Big Ten honors by media vote, while also being recognized with honorable mention All-Big Ten accolades by league coaches. In addition, senior Abby Laszewski earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors (media). Senior Suzanne Gilreath was named a Big Ten sportsmanship honoree.Â
It marked the second-straight All-Big Ten honor for Lewis, who was recognized with a honorable mention all-conference nod in 2019. Last season, Lewis became the first Badger freshman to earn All-Big Ten honors since Jolene Anderson claimed third-team honors in 2005.
Lewis recorded her Big-Ten leading 12th double-double of the season against Northwestern on Feb. 22, tallying 12 points and 11 rebounds. The 6-foot-1 forward now has 17 career double-doubles, which ranks eighth in UW's career record list. Lewis' 12 double-doubles this season alone rank fifth in UW annals among single-season records.
On the season, Lewis averages a team-leading 14.3 points per game, which ranks 11th in the Big Ten. Lewis is also tied for third in the conference with 8.6 rebounds per game and tied for eighth in field goal percentage (.446). In conference play, Lewis ranks second in the Big Ten in both points (15.3 ppg) and rebounds (9.5 rpg).
Laszewski is UW's second-leading scorer this season, averaging 11.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Having scored in double figures in 19 games this season, the 6-foot-3 forward also has 126 blocked shots, which ranks fifth in UW's record book. Laszewski ranks in four statistical categories—blocked shots (4th/1.6), defensive rebounds (12th/4.5), rebounds (13th/6.4) and points (21st/11.9).
The Badgers (11-18, 3-15 B1G) will be the No. 12 seed in the 2020 Big Ten Tournament and are set to face No. 13-seed Illinois (11-18, 2-16) on Wednesday at 1 p.m. (CT) live on BTN. The winner advances to play fifth-seeded Rutgers (21-8, 11-7) on Thursday approximately 25 minutes after the conclusion of the 11 a.m. game. All games will be held at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
