Badgers sit in fourth place after first of four days at Big Ten Championships
Bloomington, Ind. – The Wisconsin men's swimming & diving team kicked off its competition at the 2020 Big Ten Championships on Wednesday.
In a short first day, the Badgers raced in both events – the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay.
In the 200 medley relay, junior Matt Novinski, sophomore Eli Fouts, junior MJ Mao and senior Kevin Braun raced a new school-record 1:25.38 to finish in sixth place. First-place finisher Indiana swam a 1:23.07 to take the gold, the new fastest time in the country this year.
To round out the night, Novinski joined seniors Cameron Tysoe, Griffin Back and Niko Stines in the 800 free relay. The relay squad dropped nearly 10 seconds off of its entry time to finish in fourth place, touching at 6:19.34.
After day one of four of the championships, Wisconsin sits in fourth place overall, totaling 100 points in the first two events.
The men will be back in the pool tomorrow morning, with Thursday's prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT.
