Wisconsin opens conference play with two weekend matches against Nebraska and Minnesota
MADISON, Wis. – The Badgers return home to the Nielsen Tennis Stadium for their Big Ten season opening weekend against Nebraska and Minnesota.
1. Westerman's wing: Head coach Danny Westerman previews the Badgers' weekend ahead:
The match is set for 5:30 p.m. (CT) on Friday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Admission is free.
3. Scouting Minnesota: Wisconsin has a quick turnaround before facing a blistering hot Minnesota team that checks in at 11-1 and No. 16 in the ITA rankings. Most notably, the Gophers earned their biggest win of the season having knocked off then-No. 19 Alabama in a nail-biter win, 4-3. But the odds aren't stacked too tall against the Cardinal and White. Wisconsin hosted Oregon for what was a thrilling, down-to-the-wire match at the Nielsen that ended 4-3 in favor of the Ducks. However, Oregon rolled Minnesota earlier in the year by a 4-1 decision. Wisconsin looks to come out of the gates hot in the team doubles point and take that momentum into the singles frame.
Wisconsin battles Minnesota at noon (CT) on Sunday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Admission is free.
4. Doubles Demons: The dominant doubles trend present in Westerman's era reigns supreme for the 2019 Badger squad. Wisconsin continues to boast its dominance in the team point, having moved to 9-0 on the year. The Cardinal and White seek their 10th doubles point of the season on Friday.
