Milinovich and Tysoe tally top-eight performances in conference meet

IOWA CITY, Iowa – A handful of podium-worthy performances positioned the Badgers for success Friday, heading into the final day of the Big Ten championships.

Junior Michael Milinovich, who finished ninth overall in the 500-yard freestyle on Thursday, showcased his versatility by placing sixth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:46.23, the fifth-fastest mark in UW history.

On the heels of a 13th-place showing in the 200 freestyle, junior Cameron Tysoe etched his name in record books by touching seventh in the 100 backstroke, clocking in at 46.68 seconds, with the sixth-fastest time in Wisconsin program history.

The 200 freestyle relay contingent of Tyler Zelen, Griffin Back, Erik Gessner and Kevin Braun captured seventh place by securing Wisconsin's fifth-fastest all-time mark of 1:18.48.

Back would also bag a 20th-place effort in the 200 freestyle final, finishing in 1:35.55.

Sophomore MJ Mao was the Badgers' ninth-place finisher in the 100 breaststroke, accruing a personal-best time of 52.28 seconds, while senior Chris Wills placed 20th, touching the wall in 54.49 seconds.

Also showing out for the Badgers, junior Kevin Pomeroy notched 353.70 points in the 3-meter diving consolation finals, good for eighth.

With 393.5 points, Wisconsin sits in seventh place in the team standings heading into the concluding day of the conference meet.

Saturday's events – including the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 400 freestyle relay and platform diving – begin with 11 a.m. prelims, followed by 6:30 p.m. finals.
