Six Badgers named to USA roster for Rivalry Series

Three current Badgers join three former Badgers on U.S. roster
MADISON, Wis. – Six players with Wisconsin women's hockey ties will suit up this week for USA Hockey during the Rivalry Series against Hockey Canada.
Three current Badgers – Natalie Buchbinder, Britta Curl and Abby Roque – will join three UW alums – Alex (Rigsby) Cavallini, Hilary Knight and Annie Pankowski – on the U.S. roster for the two-game series against Canada.
All six Badgers were a part of national championship squads while at Wisconsin as Knight won a pair of NCAA titles, Cavallini led UW to the 2011 title and Buchbinder, Curl, Pankowski and Roque won the 2019 national title.
Buchbinder, Curl and Roque will all make their U.S. senior team debuts during the series while Cavallini, Knight and Pankowski led Team USA to gold at the 2019 IIHF World Championship.
In addition, three Badgers are on the support staff for USA Hockey as Sis Paulsen, UW's director of operations and equipment manager, is serving as the equipment manager for the U.S. Paulsen is joined by men's hockey video coordinator Emily Engel-Natzke and former UW communications student assistant Maddy Schachte on the USA Hockey staff.Â
The six Badgers on Team USA will face off against five former Badgers on Hockey Canada – Emily Clark, Ann-Renee Desbiens, Meaghan Mikkelson, Sarah Nurse and Blayre Turnbull.
The series begins on Saturday with a 6 p.m. CT contest at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut that can be seen live on NBCSN. USA and Canada will meet again on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 5:30 p.m. CT in Moncton, New Brunswick in a contest that will be shown on NHL Network.
