Wisconsin wins 85-67 over Alabama State
MADISON, WIS.- The Badgers come up with a victory in their return to the Kohl Center. Wisconsin triumphed over the Alabama State Hornets, 85-67.
Wisconsin started the game off strong, going on a 13-1 run in the first quarter. Junior Niya Beverley scored nine of the team's 25 points in the first quarter, ultimately leading the Badgers in scoring with 17 points to end the game.
The second quarter saw the Badgers go on an 8-0 run, and by the end of the half sophomore Imani Lewis had eight points, and Wisconsin was up 44-26.
The Badgers continued to outscore the Hornets into the third by 11 points as Wisconsin went on a 16-0 run, six of those points coming from Suzanne Gilreath.
Also scoring double digits alongside Beverley was freshman Sydney Hilliard who had 11. She also led the team in rebounds with eight.
Senior Kendra Van Leeuwen's one assist puts her in a tie for ninth place at 367 career assists.
Zomoria Clark led Alabama State with 16 points and six rebounds. Taylor Aikerson had 13 points, Courtney Lee 11 and Jayla Crawford 10.
Looking ahead, Wisconsin has one more game before their Big Ten opener against Rutgers. Beverley and her teammates are ready, "By always playing hard, sticking to what we know and sticking to what we do best, we will be just fine in conference play," she said.
The Badgers will stay at home against Prairie View A&M on Friday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m.
