Watts and Norby score in set back at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS – The top-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team suffered its first loss of the 2019-20 season, falling to second-ranked Minnesota, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena.

Daryl Watts put the Badgers (10-1-0, 4-1-0-0 WCHA) on the board midway in the first period, as she zoomed through the Minnesota (10-1-0, 6-1-0-0 WCHA) defense to put up her 10th goal of the year and her NCAA-leading 29th point of the season.

However, Minnesota added two goals in the second period before tacking on two more in the third period in a two-minute span.

Minnetonka, Minnesota native Presley Norby scored with 3:45 left in the third to cut the Minnesota lead to two, but UW couldn't generate any more goals with Badgers goaltender Kristen Campbell pulled for an extra attacker.

Three Notes of the Game

UW outshot Minnesota 33-21, marking the 11th time this year UW has outshot its opponents.
For the second time this year, UW did not get a power-play opportunity as neither team was called for a penalty.
The setback snapped a 24-game unbeaten streak for the Badgers and a 17-game winning streak.

On the game:
"I thought there were some good things that happened over the 60 minutes, but we didn't play the full 60 minutes. We made some mistakes and against a quality team like Minnesota you can't make mistakes. The effort was there, at times we played really well and controlled play, but you have to do that for 60 minutes."
