Senior also earns WCHA Forward of the Week honors
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's hockey senior Abby Roque earned a pair of awards on Tuesday, as the senior alternate captain was named the NCAA First Star of the Week and the WCHA Forward of the Week.
Leading the No. 2 Badgers to a sweep of their conference rival Minnesota State, Roque finished with a six-point weekend. The senior forward scored the game-winning goal in UW's 3-2 win on Saturday before enjoyed a four-point outing in a 6-1 win on Sunday, which also included the game-winning tally.
Roque's six points tied for the most by a WCHA player last week, while her two game-winning goals paced the NCAA and her +6 plus/minus rating was tied for the best mark by a WCHA skater.
A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Roque surpassed her career high for goals in a season by tallying her 12th of the year on Sunday. Roque is now just two assists shy from becoming the eighth Badger to record 100 career assists.
This weekend, Roque and the Badgers head to St. Cloud State for a Friday/Saturday battle with the Huskies. Puck drop on Friday is set for 6 p.m., while Saturday's contest is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
