Twice as nice: Badgers dominate two matches on the day

UW takes down UIC, 7-0
MADISON, Wis. – Coming back after a 7-0 victory of Nebraska-Omaha, the Wisconsin women's tennis team (2-0) put together another solid performance in Friday's doubleheader by defeating Illinois-Chicago (1-2), 7-0.

UW was able to start things off right away by winning the doubles point after the No. 1 duo of senior Sara Castellano and sophomore Anna Makarova won 6-2 and sophomore Lexi Keberle, playing with freshman Ava Markham, won 6-1.

Overall on the day five Badgers went 2-0 in singles competition while juniors Melissa Pick and Christina Zordani went 1-0 in singles play.

Wisconsin jumped to a 4-0 lead, and the victory, after No. 46 Keberle, Markham and Makarova flew through their opponents in straight sets. Keberle knocked off Karyna Bihel, 6-2, 6-3, Markham got past Georgia Gulin, 6-2, 6-1 and Makarova defeated Lucie Prochazkova, 6-3, 6-2.

Grabbing victories next for Wisconsin was No. 31 Castellano defeating Leila Colic, 6-3, 6-3. Junior Christina Zordani defeated Nell Arendt, 7-5, 6-0 to give UW a 6-0 lead, and securing the seventh point was sophomore MaryAnn Rompf, knocking off Georgie Sanders, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
