Badgers burn Phoenix in doubleheader

Team collects season-high 12 hits
MADISON, Wis. – Nice weather and hot bats highlighted the Wisconsin softball's team doubleheader with Green Bay Wednesday afternoon at Goodman Diamond. The Badgers came out on top in both games, 8-0 and 10-2, to improve to 18-16 on the season.
GAME ONE
Wisconsin didn't take long to get hot, tallying four runs in three consecutive at-bats in the bottom of the second inning. A Samantha Arents sac fly scored Brianna Flugaur before Kelly Welsh singled and advanced on an error to score Sydney Lawson. Taylor Johnson followed up with a two-RBI single through the left side, scoring Welsh and Jordan Little.
Little contributed an RBI double in the bottom of the third, scoring Lauren Foster, before Stephanie Lombardo slammed a two-RBI single to right field to help the Badgers take a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Kelsey Jenkins led off the sixth inning with a four-pitch walk, stealing second to put herself in scoring position. Jenkins advanced to third after Lombardo singled to shortstop for her second hit of the game, then scored on a wild pitch to seal the 8-0 win.
GAME TWO
The Badgers carried off right where they left off in the second inning, knocking in five runs to take the early lead. Two walks and a Welsh bunt loaded the bases with one out. Green Bay walked Johnson to put the first run on the board. Jenkins hit a bases-clearing double for the next three runs of the inning. In the next at-bat Brooke Wyderski hit a double of her own to score Jenkins and put UW up 5-0.
In the third and fourth innings, the Badgers tacked on another run each frame. Arents hit an RBI single to left scoring the sixth run and Jenkins scored on a wild pitch to widen the lead to 7-0.
In the top of the fifth inning Green Bay got on the board when Bihun hit a triple down the left-field line. They closed the gap to 7-2, but Wisconsin responded in the bottom of the inning with three more runs. The Phoenix walked three-straight batters to load the bases and were punished for it when Wyderski hit her second double of the game to score Johnson, Welsh and Jenkins.

Batting Cleanup- Four notes to know
- Lauren Foster had a big day, notching three hits and three walks for a 10 game on base streak.
- Second baseman Kelsey Jenkins reached base in all seven of her at-bats.
- All four UW pitchers saw action against the Phoenix, combining for eight strikeouts.
- UW had a season-high 12 hits in game one against Green Bay.
On deck
The Badgers resume conference play with a doubleheader against Illinois tomorrow starting at 1 p.m. The status of the third game is yet to be determined.Team Stats
