MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's cross country junior
Alicia Monson capped off an amazing campaign with a fourth-place finish at the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday at the Thomas ZImmer Championship Cross Country Course.
Monson was in the front of the pack for the whole 6K race and eventually finished in fourth with a time of 19 minutes, 55.2 seconds. Monson's efforts helped Wisconsin to a 10th-place team finish, its third top-10 finish since 2014.
"I thought she did a great job out there," Wisconsin women's head coach,
Jill Miller said. "I think she is going to regret a little bit not sticking with that front lead. She came back really strong and never stopped fighting. And fourth place is a great day. I know a lot of people talked about her going after the title and fourth is an amazing accomplishment out there and I am very proud of her."
Monson's junior season was historical for the Badgers, as she won four of the meets she competed in. She won the Badger Classic, Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, Big Ten Championship, and the Great Lakes Region.
