Poor shooting stymies Wisconsin in 61-46 loss
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Trailing 29-16 at the half, the Wisconsin women's basketball team could never recover, falling at George Washington, 61-46, in the second round of the Paradise Jam.
Senior Cayla McMorris led the Badgers (2-3) with 14 points, shooting a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line, while adding a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Courtney Fredrickson added eight points, shooting 6-6 from the charity stripe, and seven boards.
The Badgers struggled with their shooting, hitting 26.7 percent (12-45) for the game, including just 9.1 percent (1-11) in the second and fourth quarters.
Wisconsin shot a season-best 88.3 percent (20-24) from the free-throw line.
George Washington (3-3) was led by Kelli Prange with 18 points while Neila Luma added 16 points, The Colonials shot 35.3 percent (18-51) from the field and 80 percent (20-25) from the free-throw line.
Wisconsin finished with 17 turnovers, including 11 in the first half. George Washington had 11 steals in the game.
GW edged Wisconsin in rebounding, 37-33, while dishing off 13 assists.

- Senior Cayla McMorris picked up her 300th career rebound against the Colonials. The 6-0 guard also scored 10-or-more points in the third straight game.
 - Senior Lexy Richardson tied her career best, shooting 2-2 from the free throw line, while tying her career high with one rebound.
 - Sophomore Courtney Fredrickson shot a career-best 6-6 from the free-throw line.
 - Freshman Niya Beverley hit a career-high 4-6 (66.7 percent) from the charity stripe.
 - Wisconsin shot a season-best 83.3 percent (20-24) from the free-throw line.
 
Turning Point
Wisconsin trailed 14-13 at the end of the first quarter but struggled to score in the second quarter. GW went on a 16-0 run, nearly shutting out the Badgers until Suzanne Gilreath hit a 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining.Up Next
