Head Coach Mark Johnson

Opening Statement:
Obviously we're excited. It was for the most part a pretty tight game both ways and we capitalized on some of the opportunities and certainly the power play goal in the third period was a good goal for us. I thought for sixty minutes we battled hard and did a lot of good things and the players got rewarded for their efforts, so we're pleased to move on to tomorrow afternoon's game and look forward to the competition against Bemidji.

On if you expected to go down 6-on-3 following a pair of penalties:
He's to that to us before. We used to play our home games at the Kohl Center I remember he did it either in the third period or late in the second period, but again when you're playing to see tomorrow, you're going to do everything. When they pull their goalie and bring the extra attacker late in a game it's like killing a penalty and so we did a lot of good things and kept them off the board for a long period of time. That was important, obviously playing in their home building and trying to keep the crowd out of it as much as you could. We battled. We did a lot of good things for the 60 minutes as I said earlier, the players got rewarded for their effort tonight, they really did.

On Channell getting all of her shot:
Yeah, first period was relatively even, other than maybe the first four or five minutes we came out with some good energy and some good jump in our play. Those are the things you're looking for in these types of games: when you get an opportunity somebody steps up and makes a big play. Certainly her shot was earmarked for the top corner. For us, coming in there and getting the first goal is a big confidence builder and that's what we talked about going into the third period. Going on the ice, playing with confidence, playing with the same type of energy and playing a strong 20 minutes to finish the game off.

On how bounces change and it feels like McKibbon's shot that found the net would have gone wide in January:
Yeah I mean the big thing is if you're getting chances and opportunities, eventually the bounces will go your way and certainly over the course of the season they tend to balance out. You may not get them in November, December, but if you keep plugging away and keep pushing, by February, maybe early March you'll get the one you need and certainly an important one. The team's excited to play in a championship game. I know our seniors, it's been a few years and so it's opportunity for them to play for a trophy tomorrow afternoon and they need to be excited about that. It doesn't happen very often in our sport, and when you get a chance, make the most of those opportunities.

On goaltending and Ann-Renee Desbiens being at the top of her game:
She was good. When they got the power play in the second period initially right off the face-off they threw the puck at the net and number six for them is right there banging away and so by making those saves at those particular points, again keep the crowd out, you keep their energy from accelerating and, again, doing a lot of the little things really well. Face-offs in our defensive zone, especially in the neutral zone I thought that was going to be the key to the game, if we were good in the neutral zone, we would have a really good chance to win.

On the power play leading up to Nurse's first goal:
It was a good power play. Our first group was out there, they generated some good opportunities. We kept the puck in the offensive zone and were able to make a line change. Jenny (Ryan) came on the ice late and picked the puck up and it looked like it was going to go about four feet wide, but Sarah (Nurse) was able to redirect it and certainly a big goal for us.

On playing Bemidji State Sunday:
Well we played St. Cloud last weekend and if you're able to have success, their season is going to be finished. Your same scenario is this evening, and tomorrow's going to be no different. St. Cloud plays a similar style to Bemidji, North Dakota, very similar to what Bemidji does and so we have a pretty good feeling of what's coming at us. It's our ability to come out with the same energy we did tonight and capitalize on some opportunities especially early in the game if we are able to.

Player Quotes

On if it was a relief to get on the board fairly early, given last year's 1-0 semi-final loss:
Yeah I think we are really good at starting and when we get a goal under our belt we are a really good team throughout the game, and so getting that first goal, we got it out of the way and were good to go.
On how some good chances didn't work out, but got the deflection to go:
Yeah. Bounces go in, bounces don't go in. I think we were all firing today, so even my bounces that didn't go in, I think it was okay.
On getting the empty-net answer to their extra attacker goal right away and taking that momentum away:
Yeah. They were obviously playing for their season today and once they got that goal, we needed to come out and have a comeback for them and I think we responded well.
Ann-Renee Desbiens
On any particular save that was key:
I think in a game like that every single save is important. A goal can change the whole game, so you need to make sure you stay focused on every single one and stay sharp.
On if it got a little hectic when UND "threw the kitchen sink" on offense at the end of the game:
It was alright. We're lucky. Yeah, but I think my team did a great job icing the puck, just making sure the defense kept picking up people in front of the net. I think overall, it was a great team effort at the end to make sure they didn't score any other goals.
