NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.-- The Wisconsin women's tennis team earned its second-straight conference victory of the weekend, toppling Rutgers, 6-1, at the East Brunswick Racquet Club on Sunday.
Just one day after the Badgers (8-7, 2-3 B1G) picked up a win over No. 53 Maryland, the group continued its winning ways on the road, knocking off the Scarlet Knights (6-10, 0-7 B1G) in UW's final road match before returning home for a three week stretch.
Head coach Tina Samara was happy with the way the team started the match.
"It was nice," Samara said, "to have back to back matches where we took the doubles point."
The doubles victories came from the teams of Sydney Rider and Ekaterina Stepanova on the Court 2, along with Lauren Burich and Kelsey Grambeau on Court 3.Â
Wisconsin remained undefeated when winning the doubles point, as UW has tallied all eight of its wins this season when starting singles matches with the early 1-0 advantage.
In singles play, Wisconsin coasted and won five of the six matches.Â
Lauren Chypyha took the top singles match, topping Rutgers' Gina Li, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6), while Ekaterina Stepanova battled her way to victory on the fourth court over Lindsay Balsamo, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
"I'm very proud of the team this weekend," Samara said. "They have recommitted themselves and they haven't let those earlier tough losses discourage them. Their extra efforts are starting to pay off."
Sydney Rider and Kelsey Grambeau took their matches on the fifth and sixth courts, each winning in straight sets.
Wisconsin returns home for a three-week homestand, beginning with hosting Nebraska at 5 p.m. (CT) Friday, April 3.
