Postgame Quotes
Wisconsin vs. OhioState
March 13, 2015
Kohl Center - Madison, Wis.
Head Coach Mike Eaves
On if it was a satisfying outcome:
"It becomes a balancing act. For a period and a half, we were disappointed. We talked to the kids after the game. There are many chapters in the life of the season and tonight's chapter was senior weekend. We looked like we were still taking care of our parents, and our sisters, and getting them tickets and planning dinner. The first period-- I'm glad we survived it 0-0. We played a little better in the second, and we played our best hockey in the third. On one hand, we're encouraged and on the other hand we have to learn our lesson and be ready to play three periods like what we did in the third."
On if they felt Grant Besse's absence:
"I don't think so. It wasn't Grant - it was the rest of the guys not being ready to play right when the puck was dropped. You talk to any coach and they'll tell you, you don't know what you'll get from your team on a senior weekend. You try to get your kids to understand that they need to get their business done before the game and not get distracted. We looked distracted. We didn't look like we were ready to play when the puck was dropped and it took a while to get going."
On if he considered a timeout leading up to the first goal:
"I did, but it was their (Wisconsin's) own fault that they were down there. This was a learning point. It was the middle of the game, a tight game. It was on their shoulders and they didn't get the job done."
On the takeaway of the game:
"Our goals don't change. We said we wanted to play our best hockey at the end of the year. We're into March, and again we showed in the third period the type of hockey we're capable of playing and that we need to play going into next week. We get another chance tomorrow to rev it up and get ready to go and springboard ourselves into Detroit."
On moving Brad Navin to the line with Adam Rockwood and Joseph LaBate:
"Through the course of the game, you're looking at what's going well and chemistry. They got a little chemistry on the power play goal, and I just kept them together."
Senior Brad Navin (F)
On whether there is any satisfaction in tonight's outcome:
"We need to play the way that we played in the third period come tomorrow. We have guys that didn't show up until halfway through the game, and that really hurt us. Props to Landon for keeping us in that game and giving us a chance. Hopefully we can pick it up where we left off and get a win tomorrow."
On scoring two goals in the last home weekend of his career:
"I was asked the same question on the radio, and I said that a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then, so I'll take them when I can get them."
Senior Joseph LaBate (F)
On whether the distractions of senior weekend affected the game:
"I can't really put my finger on it, but I guess that's a good guess. It may have been guys over trying, or guys being distracted outside of the rink, some guys had tests today. But that's not really an excuse. We just need to be ready when the puck drops. I think tomorrow all the boys will be ready. That's our goal, to start the game like we played in the third period."
Senior Landon Peterson (G)
On how he felt he played tonight:
"I came in prepared and focused, just like any other game I'm playing. My job is to keep these guys in the game, and I thought I was able to help get our feet underneath us and have a strong base."
On his save against Tyler Lundey with time winding down in the third period:
"You never know what he's going to do. You just have to be patient as a goalie and try not to make the first move. Fortunately it stayed up."
