Wisconsin Postgame Quotes
Wisconsin vs. Iowa
Feb. 8, 2015
Kohl Center - Madison, Wis.

Wisconsin Head Coach Bobbie Kelsey

On her opening statement:
"Very disappointed that we could not finish out the game a little bit stronger. In that second half, we just kind of let it get away from us a little bit… a lot actually. Probably should've made that adjustment to the zone a little bit sooner, but they hit some tough shots and some ones that we probably could've stopped but we just had trouble with that. Credit them, they're an NCAA team and they're 19-4 for a reason."

On Samantha Logic's impressive performance:
"She gets a full head of steam and that was part of the problem. We let her get going too fast, and it's hard to stop a player going that fast. When they have shooters, you can't really help in(side). She did a good job of just putting her head down and going to the rim. That's what she did and we probably should've made some more adjustments. I take the blame for that one. If players keep doing the same thing, you have to make an adjustment."

On what Iowa was doing so effectively on their stretching the lead to begin the second half:
"Like I said, just putting their head down and going to the basket. We did not make the adjustment, and I take the blame for the players. She just had a game where she couldn't miss those shots. When you give a team layups, as opposed to jumpers, it's going to be a little bit easier for them to score. I know in the first half, she took a jumper and hit it off the side of the basket. That's not typical of her shooting. It just goes to show that you have to make them take pull ups instead of layups, and in that we didn't do a very good job of that."

On her approach to handling Melissa Dixon:
"She's a great shooter and when you watch enough film, you know that if you leave her, she's going to hit shots. We didn't want to give up threes, obviously twos count less than threes… they just get an extra point. Then when you let them shoot out that far, then you have to come further to get them, and that opens up the basket.
"Granted we didn't shut down the paint like we should have, but I credit Nicole (Bauman) and whoever else was on (Dixon) for not letting her get what she wanted. Maybe other teams will take this statement and do a better job on (Samantha) Logic and (Melissa) Dixon, because those are the two key players on their team. Other than (Bethany) Doolittle and they have some other great players too. But those three… if you can contain those three, you have a chance to win the game."

Wisconsin players

Tessa Cichy (G)

On at what point you credit Samantha Logic's performance to having a good day:
"I think at any point. We knew what the scout was on her, and we tried to defend her as best as we could, but she just had a really good game. That's pretty much it. I think she's capable of doing that, and today she showed that."

Jacki Gulczynski (F)
On why Iowa took such a big lead in the beginning of the second half:
"The second half, they came out really aggressive - everybody attacking the basket. We really didn't have an answer. They came down and scored, and we came down and either turned it over, or got a tough shot. It's them on good defense, but I think a lot of it was us on offense not necessarily executing on the defensive end. We're still capable and I think we showed that in the first half. It's just little break downs - little things, little details like footwork, things like that. Something we can fix. I know we can fix moving forward."

Head Coach Lisa Bluder

Opening statement:
"I'm really proud of the effort of our team. We came out really suspect in this game. Wisconsin was hitting everything. Our defense was a little suspect. (We) go down nine (points), but then we battled back, a lot off of Ally Disterhoft dribbles. Going into halftime with a four-point lead, we felt pretty darn good after being behind by nine points.

"I thought Sam Logic just put on an exhibition today on transition offense. She makes my job awfully easy. She has a career high 30 points today. Her body control - unbelievable, taking the ball to the rim. Melissa Dixon always scores too (but she didn't today) and we still had 87 (points) because we have a great team. If people focus on one person, it just opens up the floor for everybody else. We don't mind when people do that to us."

On their scoring opportunities in the paint:
"We always go into a game not thinking we're going to get paint points or we're going to do this. We see what's there and we take advantage of what's there. I think today, they opened up the inside because of the concentration on Melissa. So be it. We'll take the rim."

Iowa Players

Sam Logic:
On her strong performance at the Kohl Center year after year:
"As a competitor, you want to be as competitive as you can every game. I try to give everything I can for my team. Coming to Madison, it's the closest to my family and friends and everyone who's ever supported me. We had two busses from Iowa. We had two busses from Racine, too. We had so many fans here, a lot of black and gold. We're proud of that. We like that we travel well. We appreciate that our fans our here, but it's probably the last time that they'll get to see me play in an Iowa uniform because (Madison's) close. That does help a little bit."

On her driving to the net:
"Well I think in the first half, we didn't get a lot of opportunities because (the Badgers) were scoring on every possession and we couldn't push as well. We were getting deflections, getting our hands on some steals. Whit (Whitney Jennings) and Dix (Melissa Dixon), (they were) getting their hands up, getting rebounds. Focusing on Melissa so much, you have the opportunity to look at the rim a little bit more because no one wants to give the momentum shift, especially get her (Dixon) going on threes. Like coach said, you give what the defense gives you and the lane was open in the second half, but it was because of our defense and being able to push and transition instead of having to push it out and letting them set up."

Bethany Doolittle
On Tessa Cichy as a player and playing together in high school:
"She's always been a great player. In high school, she was the top scorer on our team - a huge part of our team. Now she's a huge part of the Wisconsin team and it showed tonight what she can do. She had 20 points. She's doing well. I'm proud of her."
