COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Senior captain Blayre Turnbull scored twice in the second period, while sophomore netminder Ann-Renée Desbiens stopped all 24 shots she faced as the No. 3 Wisconsin women's hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with a 2-0 shutout over Ohio State on Friday at the OSU Ice Rink.
Turnbull now has five goals in the past two games after recording a hat trick last Saturday night against No. 7 Minnesota Duluth, and has 13 goals on the year.

"Well I think after our last game where she scored a hat trick, she left the rink a little more confident," Wisconsin head coach Mark Johnson said. "Certainly that confidence showed tonight as she scored the first goal and then scored a real nice power play goal in the second period. Hopefully it'll continue, I think she's been pretty consistent all year. Â There's some times she was getting some chances but the puck just wasn't going in, but she stuck with it, had a big weekend last weekend against Minnesota Duluth which has certainly carried over to tonight's game against Ohio State."
Turnbull contributed her recent success to her line mates, Katy Josephs and Karley Sylvester.
"I think now that we've been playing together for a little while, things have finally started to click," Turnbull said. Â "When we get the chance to score, we're putting the puck in the back of the net, so we're going to look to continue to have that success."
Desbiens was stellar again in net for Wisconsin to earn her 20th win of the season. The La Malbaie, Quebec, native has 12 shutouts this season, which are the second-most in program history and are the second most in the country. During UW's eight-game unbeaten streak, Desbiens has a save percentage of .979 and five shut outs to go along with a goals-against average of 0.37.
"I thought Ann was sharp, especially in the first period," Johnson remarked. "I think it took us probably twenty minutes to get used to the rink dimensions. We talked about it, but you actually have to go out and play and then understand that you're not going to have a lot of time and space because of the dimensions, but Ann was very sharp, not only in the first period, but certainly throughout the game, and I'm excited for her and she's certainly earned another shutout."
Ohio State came out firing in the first period, outshooting Wisconsin 8-6, but neither team could score.
The tide turned early in the second period as Turnbull lit the lamp two minutes into the frame, sneaking the puck past OSU goaltender Kassidy Sauve to give Wisconsin a 1-0 lead.
With just under three minutes remaining in the second, Turnbull doubled the Wisconsin advantage, scoring on the Badger's second power play of the game.
Neither team could light the lamp in the final period as Desbiens came up huge, saving all nine of Ohio State's shots.
Wisconsin now leads the nation in scoring defense, holding opponents to an average of 1.03 goals per contest. The Badgers also lead the country in the penalty kill with a conversion rate of .969 and Wisconsin has not allowed a power-play goal since Oct. 24, 2014 against Bemidji State.
The Badgers and Buckeyes wrap up their series on Saturday with a 3 p.m. (CT) contest.
